The beginning of a revolutionary jewellery savings vision.

Small savings that made gold accessible to everyone.
Today
A trusted legacy empowering families across generations.
In 1985, the year Bangasree Jewellers was founded, a simple yet powerful idea took shape—one that would go on to transform the way India buys jewellery. This idea was named “Sonar Kella”, a jewellery savings initiative born out of empathy, understanding, and a vision to make gold accessible to everyone.
At a time when purchasing gold jewellery required a substantial one-time investment, many families found it difficult to fulfil their aspirations—be it for weddings, festivals, or securing their future.
Recognizing this gap, we introduced a pioneering instalment scheme that allowed customers to begin their journey with contributions as small as ₹10 and ₹20.
This was not just a financial model—it was a movement. Sonar Kella empowered individuals from modest backgrounds to dream bigger, plan better, and own jewellery with dignity and ease.
By allowing customers to save in small, manageable amounts over time, we made the process of buying gold simple, disciplined, and stress-free.
What began as a humble initiative in South Kolkata soon resonated with people across different income groups and demographics. From daily wage earners to salaried professionals, from young families planning their first purchase to elders securing heirlooms—Sonar Kella became a trusted pathway for countless Indians.
Over the years, this innovative approach has influenced the jewellery industry across the country. Instalment-based jewellery buying, once a novel concept, is today widely adopted—changing the way businesses operate and customers engage with gold purchases.
We take immense pride in having pioneered a model that brought inclusivity, accessibility, and financial planning into the heart of the jewellery business.
From ₹10 beginnings to a nationwide impact.
Even today, Sonar Kella stands as a symbol of our commitment to customers—a promise that beautiful jewellery should never be out of reach, but always within grasp. Sonar Kella is not just our history—it is our legacy.
